Timetable changes bring new direct bus services to two popular National Trust attractions

Following a regular review of bus services two popular National Trust sites in Norfolk will now receive a direct bus service.

These services come following our partnership with national organisation ‘Good Journey’ last year to promote car-free days out across the county.

Visitors will be able to get to the Blickling Estate on a Monday and Friday on a bus direct from Aylsham Market Place. The Sunbeam service 1A will depart Aylsham at 10:10 and 11:40am. The return journey will depart from the roadside in front of the hall at 11:50am, 1:28pm and 4:08pm.

Meanwhile Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate will get a direct service from Sheringham (four buses per day) and Cromer (two buses per day) running Monday to Friday. These services are operated by Sanders as part of its scenic Coasthopper routes, using fully accessible 18-seat vehicles and travelling through the Felbrigg Estate itself.

Graham Plant, cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport said; “Making small changes to already existing services is a clever way of making our bus services the first choice for more people. We know that people want to use the bus, not only for commuting but also for leisure and days out with the family. Providing a direct service to places like this benefits residents and tourists alike while supporting our visitor attractions who can promote a more sustainable way to travel to their location. ”

All services are signed up to the Government flat fare scheme which means a single journey is just £2 until the end of 2024. Children under five and concessionary pass holders travel for free.

Both attractions are ‘Good Journey attractions’ and offer a discount for anyone arriving car-free.  This is currently 20% off entry and 10% off in the café when you arrive car free.

Heather Jermy, General Manager Blickling Estate said; “The National Trust is adapting and responding to climate change and we’re working hard to protect the places in our care for everyone, for ever. Even the smallest changes can make a big difference for nature. We’re really excited that these new bus services will enable visitors to travel to the Blickling and Felbrigg estates in a more environmentally friendly way and make them more accessible for those without a car. In addition, our partnership with ‘Good Journey’ enables visitors to easily plan a car-free visit from further afield. As part of our commitment to sustainable travel, we’re offering discounts off entry into the houses and gardens, and in our cafés for those who arrive by bus, bike, train, or on foot.”
